Dan Patrick was the guest on FuboTV’s Drinks With Binks on Friday and opened up about his relationship with ESPN and his time at the network. He told some stories from his time on SportsCenter that made it clear the show was not always easy to do.
“I loved it, but it took years of my life,” Patrick told Julie Stewart-Binks. “I’m too old to be doing that, it’s a young man’s game. SportsCenter, that is a high-wire act every night, and I did that for 15 years. Because it’s live; the games would end, and we would go on the air, and we wouldn’t even see the highlights 70 percent of the time.”
He described being on air, with only his head visible to the audience, while being handed the shot sheet of a highlight for the first time. He said that he had to put a lot of faith in “a 23-year-old, just graduated, to get the right name and spelling.”
Other highlights of the show included Patrick offering praise to current ESPN employees Rece Davis and Tony Reali. He also said that he would be open to do a reunion show with Keith Olbermann in 2022, which Olbermann initially proposed on Twitter.
