Few things mesh worse than Barstool Sports and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, but the foes now have a mutual friend in Deion Sanders.
Sanders joined Bartsool Sports just over a month ago after leaving NFL Network and he’s nearing the launch of his new podcast 21stAnd Prime with Jamie Dukes. How long Sanders will last at Barstool is certainly up for debate as the former two-sport star is expected to become the head football coach at Jackson State. But no matter how short lived his stay is at Barstool, Sanders won’t leave before delivering an interview with the NFL commissioner.
Sunday morning, the Twitter account for 21st And Prime sent out a “coming soon” teaser that included a picture of Goodell, signaling an appearance for the commissioner on one of Barstool’s newest podcasts.
Goodell’s dismay for the brand is so strong that he even declined a $250,000 charity donation from Barstool founder Dave Portnoy in exchange for the commissioner needing to watch a football game with him. Citing Portnoy’s encounters with NFL security, which includes being arrested at their headquarters in 2015, trespassing in ‘16 and falsifying credentials to enter Super Bowl LIII Media Night in ’19, the league declined his quarter-million dollar charity bid.
Barstool does a great job of taking a hands-off approach when letting their employees create content, but hopefully Sanders and Dukes broached the topic of Goodell’s history with Portnoy at least once.
