New York is clearly over the Jets. The team’s Week 2 loss to the San Francisco 49ers was the least watched game by New York television audiences in team history according to John Ourand of Sports Business Journal.
The team’s 31-13 loss to San Francisco drew just a 3.9 rating locally. Ourand says the number is “closer to a regular season Yankees rating than a normal NFL number.” Year-over-year, that is a 62.8% drop from last year’s Week 2 matchup, although it should be pointed out that the Jets played on Monday Night Football in Week 2 of the 2019 season.
No one had very high expectations for the Jets when the season began, and it is easy to understand why fans may have been eager to skip what they expected to be a blowout loss to the defending NFC champions. Adding insult to injury for the franchise, the equally underachieving Giants drew a 7.4 rating in their loss to the Chicago Bears.
Ourand notes that the final round of the US Open likely also contributed to the drop in viewership. As of Tuesday morning, local ratings for the US Open were not available for New York.
Let people who live in NY enjoy an NFL sunday. Ide rather watch the Bill’s, times have changed just because you live in A state doesnt mean you follow that team. Let fans enjoy more games instead of home teams, especially in this shit hole we call NY
