Steve Bertrand will host Chicago’s Afternoon News on WGN 720-AM, a key part of the revised lineup at the legendary Windy City news talker. The show starts Monday at 4 pm.
The show is part of a wave of changes that have taken place over the last several months.
“Steve has always been committed to reporting the news in a fair and thoughtful way,” said Mary Boyle, WGN Radio General Manager. “The importance of local news and information being shared by someone who is trusted by our audience is paramount during these challenging times.”
In December, WGN let its longtime duo of Bill Leff and Wendy Snyder go. That move came after Nexstar purchased the station from Tribune Media for a whopping $7.2 billion.
Out in the shakeup are afternoon host Roe Conn and overnight personality Nick Digilio. Radio Hall-of-Famer, John Records Landecker, migrates from doing fill-in work to hosting evenings.
Landecker’s resume includes numerous stints at music intensive formats including a near decade long run at the then top 40 WLS from 1972-1981.
The changes were first reported by Chicago media columnist Roger Feder. Host Anna Davlantes will be heard from 1-4 p.m.
