The NLDS gets underway Tuesday afternoon with both series being played in Houston. The opening game will see the Atlanta Braves face the Miami Marlins with first pitch scheduled for 2 pm.
FS1 will carry both games, and that Braves/Marlins series will see some new faces. Adam Amin will make his MLB Postseason debut for FOX as the series’ play-by-play man. Joining him in the booth will be AJ Pierzynski and special guest Adam Wainwright.
Wainwright has plenty of history in the postseason to draw from when discussing the action in front of him. The 39 year old three-time all star has been to the postseason as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals eight times. His team was eliminated from this postseason last week by the San Diego Padres.
If this is the first step to a future career in the media, FOX has plenty of precedent for grooming future talent while they are still active players. John Smoltz first appeared on TV in 2008, working for Peachtree TV, which carries Braves games. He will serve as the analyst during FS1’s coverage of the Padres and Dodgers series in the NLDS and then join Joe Buck as the lead analyst on the NLCS and World Series. Frank Thomas was still an active player in 2007 while still a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. He will be one of FOX’s lead studio analysts throughout the postseason.
Adam Wainwright has not explicitly stated that he intends to retire when the season is done. He went 5-3 this season as a starting pitcher with a 3.15 ERA. He also will be without a contract once the season officially comes to an end.
The Braves/marlins announcing crew is the worst I’ve heard in my life. Hire some people with baseball announcing integrity, not just ex-ballplayers. They’re just laughing and having a good time like it’s a regular season game. Garbage.
