The Covid-19 outbreak in the Tennessee Titans’ facility is not under control. After two days of no new positive tests, two members of the team tested positive for the virus on Wednesday morning. According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, that puts this weekend’s matchup with the Buffalo Bills in serious jeopardy.
If the NFL is to err on the side of caution and not let the two teams play on Sunday, there is no real option for making up the game. Graziano said if that is the case and the NFL determines that the Titans have not done enough to get the outbreak under control, scheduling may force the Titans to take a loss.
Week 6 of Thursday Night Football will see the Buffalo Bills host the Kansas City Chiefs. The NFL may be making up its Covid-19 policy on the fly, but there is no way they would move the week 5 matchup to Monday night and then force the Bills to play on just two days of rest.
The Titans are also between a rock and a hard place. As Graziano points out, the Titans have already used their bye week to reschedule the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers that was missed this past weekend.
Nashville sports teams have had serious problems managing the coronavirus in 2020. Well before the football season began, the city’s MLS franchise, Nashville SC, was forced to withdraw from the MLS is Back Tournament after five players tested positive for the virus after arriving in Walt Disney World to enter the league bubble.
