Steve Scully’s Bias Comes Into Question Ahead of Second Presidential Debate

The next presidential debate moderator is under fire for a tweet that raises questions about his bias. A message from Steve Scully’s account asking former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci if he should respond to Trump elicited several questions from reporters about why Scully was corresponding with one of the president’s biggest critics.

Trump said during a Fox Business interview Thursday morning that he thought Scully was a “nice guy” but heard he is a “Never Trumper.” The president was referring to Scully’s work as a Biden intern years ago.

The Hill’s Joe Concha responded by wondering why Scully was communicating with Scaramucci. “In a related story, Scully once interned for Sen. Joe Biden. Optics here are horrible & underscore mistrust in the media.”

Scaramucci responded to the tweet saying, “Ignore. He is having a hard-enough time. Some more bad stuff about to go down.”

The Commission on Presidential Debates claims Scully’s account was hacked.
