Rich Herrera is heading back to Tucson. Cumulus Media announced on Wednesday that Herrera had been hired to program and host afternoon drive on Wildcat Radio 1290.
Herrera is no stranger to the station. He held the same role there in 2001 when it launched.
“I am excited to join Cumulus and am happy to be reunited with so many good friends and radio professionals in Tucson,” Herrera said in a press release. “The University of Arizona is one of the iconic schools in college sports and to be able to host afternoons and program their flagship is a fantastic opportunity. After working in Major League Baseball, I plan to bring many of those best practices to Wildcats Radio 1290, on-air and digitally, to build one of the best college flagship radio stations in the nation. The Wildcats are known for hard work, attention to detail and a winning tradition – and that is what we will bring to the station every day.”
Most recently, Herrera was working as the pre and postgame host for the San Diego Padres’ radio broadcasts. He also served as the network’s executive producer. He held a similar role with the Tampa Bay Rays prior to that. Herrera has also been heard on SiriusXM’s MLB Network Radio.
Herrera is expected to continue hosting nationally syndicated shows as part of the CBS Sports Radio network.
