Mike Golic Still Open To Mike & Mike Reunion

An ESPN Radio legend was a guest on CBS Sports Radio on Wednesday night. Zach Gelb welcomed Mike Golic Sr to his night time show and asked a question that even he acknowledged Golic may be tired of – is he open to a reunion with Mike Greenberg?

“I always answer it the same way. When my show ended with Trey and my son, I said I would go back and do a show again with Greeny, if people wanted that I would be open to doing that again,” Golic said. “But again, I can only control me saying that, that I would be willing to do it. I can’t control if it’s not going to happen, who says it’s not going to happen.”

Golic’s wife Christine responded to a fan on Twitter that asked if Golic would consider being a part of Mike Greenberg’s new show on ESPN Radio when Golic & Wingo came to an end over the summer. She responded “It was offered. No takers.” She later clarified that her husband offered, but there was no interest from ESPN.

“I’ve already let it be known that I would be open to it, but it’s not a one-sided thing,” Golic said. “I don’t even mean just Greeny. There’s people above us all at the network that have to decide things like that.”

Gelb asked if Golic was disappointed that he and Greenberg have not been on air together since the end of Mike & Mike. The iconic morning show kicked off the ESPN Radio broadcast day for sixteen years. Golic said that he wouldn’t mind having a conversation with Greeny again.

“It’s one of those things you wouldn’t mind doing, but the way it ended, it just didn’t lend itself to that. I had to move on. When it ended, I had to move on to the next hill with Trey and my son.”

Golic shared plenty of fond memories of his time on ESPN Radio with Gelb. Many of them centered on food. He regaled the CBS Sports Radio audience with tales of donuts being delivered to him at live broadcasts, trying to eat a pound and a half of bacon in an hour, and spending an entire show in New Orleans eating beignets.

One thing he made clear was that while it is fun to look back on some of those moments, by no means does he consider his broadcasting career “over.”

“I’m still in it. I’m not going to retire. I’m still going to keep doing it,” Golic said. “So, just like the good with the bad, I’m not in the reflective part of my tenure yet. That will come in time. I’m 57, and I feel like I’m 40, so I feel like I’ve got a lot of time left.”
