Twitter Changes Course After Backlash Over New York Post Story Involving Joe Biden

Twitter is changing its rules regarding ‘hacked’ content after a New York Post story emerged which included potentially damaging allegations about Joe Biden. The company’s policy chief Vijaya Gadde said the company will not remove hacked content unless “it is directly shared by hackers or those acting in concert with them.”

Following the revelation that the social media giant was censoring accounts, the hashtag #TwitterCensorship was trending on the service.

Hacked content is content that is placed on a person’s site without their permission. Twitter said an updated policy will be put in place soon.

The announcement comes less than 24 hours after Republican lawmakers announced that they were going to subpoena CEO Jack Dorsey to testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism. The panel wants to determine whether Twitter violated federal election law by suppressing the distribution of the New York Post story.

The Biden campaign has denied any claims of wrongdoing. Several conservatives including members of the media and President Donald Trump claim they have been targeted and censored on Twitter.
