NFL Hall-of-Famer and television star Michael Strahan has a new documentary heading to HBO next month.
Strahan and Constance Schwarts-Morini have teamed up to executive produce The Cost of Winning, a docuseries illustrating the St. Frances Academy Panthers football program. In 2018, the Baltimore high school was expelled from playing football in their league because they were “too good,” forcing them to create an independent schedule.
The four-part docuseries details the controversy which sparked questions of racial bias and follows the Panthers as they overcame the expulsion to save their football program. According to the HBO press release, the series “takes viewers behind the scenes with the players and coaching staff of St. Frances Academy as they navigate and overcome challenges ranging from not having their own practice facilities to the relentless horrors of street violence in their Baltimore neighborhood.”
“We are excited to bring the inspiring story of Baltimore’s St. Frances Academy to life on HBO, and to showcase the adversity and challenges the Panthers endured to save their program,” said executive producers Michael Strahan and Constance Schwartz-Morini in a joint statement. “Thanks to the perseverance and dedication of the team at SMAC Entertainment, including Ethan Lewis, and Mike Ferry with The Story Lab, the series reveals the power of sports as a unifying force.”
The Cost of Winning debuts on HBO Nov. 10 at 9pm ET, with its first two episodes. Parts three and four of the docuseries will air the next night at the same time.
