With college basketball planning to tip its season off later this month, the University of Kentucky announced changes to their radio team. Joining the UK Sports Network is one of their best players in program history, Jack “Goose” Givens.
Givens will be featured as a co-host of the Wildcats pregame radio coverage, partnering with Dave Baker on the show. Baker returns for his 34th season with the UK Sports Network. The addition of Givens means another UK Hall of Famer, Rex Chapman will no longer be part of the show.
Chapman joined the UK Radio Network in 2016, which was a couple of years before he became a social media star. In Jan. 2019, Chapman launched the Twitter phrase that went viral, “Block or Charge?”. Block or Charge ultimately became a TV show on Adult Swim, and Chapman has since been labeled a social media influencer, famously retweeting viral videos.
Despite no longer being part of the pregame coverage for Wildcats basketball, the University of Kentucky said Chapman will work with JMI Sports on new media content, but did not offer any insight as to what that might be. JMI Sports is the managing partner of several collegiate multimedia rights partnerships, including UK.
