President Trump only has a few more weeks left in office until January 20th, president-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration day. With the transition of power set to take place, a former member of the special counsel’s office, Andrew Weissman, wrote an op-ed in The New York Times calling for Trump to be investigated and potentially prosecuted by the next administration.
With Weissman’s piece making the rounds through different news media outlets, it caused Fox News host Sean Hannity to offer some advice before his time as president comes to an end. During his radio and television shows, Hannity called for Trump to pardon himself to avoid potential prosecution.
“If that’s what they want to do, if Biden ever became president, I’d tell Trump to pardon yourself and pardon your family,” Hannity said.
Hannity isn’t alone in telling the president to pardon himself to avoid possible prosecution. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) shares the same sentiments.
“President Trump should pardon Michael Flynn,” Gaetz said. “He should pardon the Thanksgiving turkey. He should pardon everyone from himself to his administration officials to Joe Exotic if he has to.”
For historical purposes, no president has ever tried to pardon himself, according to The Hill.
