Bob McLain Finished at WORD Later This Month

South Carolina talk show host Bob McLain is stepping down after a 14-year run at 106.3 WORD. McLain made the announcement public on Tuesday. His final day on the air will be Dec 22.

“I have been privileged to learn and work with the best, “McLain said. When I look back, I realize it’s all about the people you meet along the way.”

McLain’s career began in Washington D.C. at the tender age of 15. He went on to work in Dallas, Memphis, Sacramento, and New York City. He worked in TV for 20 years as a sportscaster, dabbling in weather and news as well.

Market manager Steve Sinicropi called the announcement “bittersweet” praising McLain for his dedication and excellence. “He has been a consummate professional.”

“I’ve had a lot of amazing experiences,” McLain said. “Attending a Christmas party at Graceland with Elvis and the Memphis mafia, covering a World Series in Baltimore, meeting just about every big name in sports, many of them my childhood heroes. Too many events really to catalog.”

“I’ll miss listening to the “bonus hour,” famously named by Bob when his show was extended to 7:00 p.m.” said Sinicropi. McLain will remain at the station in a limited capacity with the Bob McLain Minute which will air each weekday afternoon.
