Washington Post Hiring for 150 Jobs

The coronavirus pandemic has caused plenty of media outlets to either furlough or layoff employees.

Media outlets such as BuzzFeed have reduced most of their staffers’ salaries as they prepared for a financial loss. Meanwhile, Vox Media announced furloughs for about 100 employees in April, while Gannett and the Los Angeles Times also made similar moves.

However, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel, at least for the Washington Post. According to The Hill, the Post plans to add more than 150 jobs to its newsroom next year. The hirings will bring the Post’s total staff to a record high of more than 1,000, their highest ever. When asked for comment, Post spokesperson Molly Gannon Conway confirmed the number but didn’t provide any additional details. Nonetheless, with the outlet owned by Amazon CEO and tech billionaire Jeff Bezos and their digital subscriptions have tripled to nearly 3 million over the last four years, the Post has enough financial backing to make such positive changes.
