Jake Tapper will see an extra hour added to his show “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” which now goes from one to two hours, CNN announced.
The program will occupy the 4 to 6 p.m. nightly starting in April. Tapper will also serve as CNN’s lead anchor for all major Washington events.
As a result of this change, the network will shorten Wolf Blitzer’s show from two hours to one. Blitzer’s “The Situation Room” will now air from 6-7 p.m., instead of 5-7 p.m. Furthermore, Blitzer will serve as lead anchor for all major breaking news and a host for CNN special reports.
Meanwhile, Tapper and Dana Bash will co-anchor the “State of the Union,” with each hosting two Sundays per month starting Jan. 24. Despite Bash having a new role at the network, she will remain the chief political correspondent and host quarterly prime-time interview specials. These adjustments to CNN’s lineup come ahead as the network makes preparations for President-elect Joe Biden’s administration, which will begin on Jan. 20.
