The Pac-12 Conference announced on Wednesday that it will part ways with commissioner Larry Scott as of June 30.
According to Awful Announcing, Scott has faced harsh criticism throughout his tenure for his handling of the Pac-12 Networks and its limited availability since its launch in 2012.
The report also notes, “The Pac-12 Network still doesn’t have a carriage deal with DirecTV, which means that the channel(s) can’t even be found at most sports bars in America.”
Scott’s contract was set to expire in 2022, yet he’ll still be paid through June 22, according to Michael Smith of Sports Business Journal.
“The decision was made well in advance of next year’s contract expiration, in part, to allow a new commissioner to be in place to negotiate and maximize the Conference’s next important long-term media rights agreement,” the Conference noted in a press release.
The PAC-12 has deals with ESPN and Fox that end in 2023-24.
