When a video of Drew Brees working out made social media rounds over the weekend, it caused many to wonder if it means the quarterback is getting ready to play one more season. But according to FOX Sports Radio host Dan Patrick, it looked more like Brees is preparing for TV.
There’s no need to hide hair loss if you wear a helmet on TV. Brees’ hair has been thinning and receding for years, but he mostly kept it under his helmet. In the workout video, Brees was flaunting a thick head of hair most balding men can only dream of.
There is no cure for hair loss, there are only ways to treat or hide it. As Patrick pointed out, one main reason Brees might have had a procedure to hide baldness is if he’s readying his looming TV career.
“It dawned on me, Drew Brees has a full head of hair,” Patrick noted during his Monday radio show. “That’s the tip off. Drew Brees is truly retiring because he now has a full head of hair. I don’t know where he got it, but he has a full head of hair, he is ready for TV.”
It’s not without precedent, there have been plenty of hair plugs and pieces on TV. Jason Witten found a full head of hair when he joined ESPN’s Monday Night Football booth a couple of years ago, and lost it again when he decided to return to football.
It would be a shame if Brees covered his new hair with a helmet, especially considering he has a media gig waiting. Prior to the 2020 NFL season, Brees signed two contracts, a $50 million extension with the Saints and a deal with NBC Sports that goes into effect when he’s done playing. Initially, Brees will join the network’s Notre Dame football game broadcast and work as a studio analyst for Football Night in America.
