People must have flocked to Cleveland recently because one week after Colin Cowherd said the city isn’t big enough for him to rile them up, the FOX Sports Radio host was back to criticizing Baker Mayfield.
Wednesday night, Mayfield tweeted that he and his wife “almost 100%” just saw a UFO. Let’s assume that means he’s 95% sure he saw a UFO, it’s reasonable for him to ask Twitter if others saw the phenomenon. But according to Cowherd, the tweet was just another example of Mayfield being a bad NFL quarterback. Remember, this take came days after Cowherd defended his opinions on Mayfield and Cleveland, assuring the city that he never tries to troll them, using their market size as proof.
“To that, I would say I prefer of all the qualities of franchise quarterbacks, I want to know your arm, are you good pre-snap?” Cowherd asked. “Are you mobile? The ability to see UFOs in the offseason is nowhere near my top 10 qualifications. Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw, Tom Brady have never seen aliens. I would prefer my guys don’t talk about it, but in fairness, Aaron Rodgers also admits he’s seen a UFO and he did win a Super Bowl.”
I would argue Tom Brady has never admitted to seeing aliens because it’s more likely that he is one. But credit Cowherd for “in fairness” acknowledging Aaron Rodgers also once saw a UFO. Not only does Rodgers have a Super Bowl ring and a UFO sighting, but he’s since made researching UFOs a hobby.
The most impressive part of this take was Cowherd’s ability to say it with a straight face. There’s no way he believes admitting to a UFO sighting is actually a detriment to Mayfield’s quarterback skill. Cowherd might not be a fan of Mayfield, but he knows the quarterback is a polarizing topic that generates interest, and that’s the driving force behind his constant criticism.
