“Jerry from Queens” has long been one of the most popular callers with WFAN overnight host Steve Somers, so it was disappointing to hear the two had a falling out. But thankfully, the caller more commonly known as Jerry Seinfeld says the rift is false.
Just a few months ago, Somers said he was hurt by the famous comedian. When reached for comment by Newsday, Seinfeld called it “Ridiculous. I love Mr. Somers. Never had a cross word.”
Late last year, WFAN morning show producer Al Dukes alleged the Seinfeld-Somers falling out. The cause was Somers asking Seinfeld for Larry David’s updated email address. David, a Yankees fan, had previously been a guest on Somers’ WFAN show, so the request wasn’t without precedent.
When a caller later asked about the incident, a disheartened Somers said he was trying to keep the quarrel quiet, but acknowledged it was true. Somers reached out to his friend “Jerry from Queens” for a minor favor, but Seinfeld responded with angst.
“Seinfeld’s response was, ‘that’s out of order, that’s not what friends ask of other friends,’ I swear to you!” Somers told the caller.
“I wasn’t mad, I was hurt,” Somers added. “Because I couldn’t understand what he was saying to me when he had given me the email address in the past.”
But this whole thing might be a big misunderstanding. And according to Seinfeld, he’ll soon call Somers again.
“I prefer to call in during Mets baseball season. My main sports interest,” Seinfeld told Newsday. “Our friendship is for life. What a knucklehead. Watch for ‘Jerry from Queens’ coming very soon to a schmooze near you…!”
