The New York Knicks’ lead radio team of Ed Cohen and Brendan Brown will be off-air indefinitely due to “health and safety protocols,” as first reported Monday by Marc Berman of The New York Post.
Cohen and Brown have been calling Knicks games on their flagship station 98.7 ESPN New York since 2017. Because of the pandemic, the broadcast duo hasn’t been traveling with the Knicks, but they do call home games from the Garden.
Now in their fourth season together, Cohen began his tenure as Knicks play-by-play voice in 2017, while Brown has been a radio analyst for the team since 2008, moving to full-time in 2014. Brown, a former assistant coach with the Grizzlies, is the son of ESPN analyst and veteran NBA head coach Hubie Brown.
Saturday night was the first missed game for the Knicks radio team, with Kenny Albert and Alan Hahn filling the void. But while Cohen and Brown are “out indefinitely,” The Post reports John Giannone and John Wallace will handle the call going forward. Giannone has worked for MSG for nearly two decades, mostly as a rinkside reporter during Rangers telecasts. Wallace is a former Knicks first-round draft selection, whose broadcast career began in 2014, when he made his first appearance on MSG.
