After a standoff between the two sides, Jim Nantz and CBS have a deal that will keep him at the network for the foreseeable future. Sports Business Journal reports that terms of the deal are unknown.
Nantz had reportedly been unhappy about the new contract his NFL play-by-play partner Tony Romo received last year, that saw the former QB’s salary rise to around $17.5 million annually. The deal that set to expire had Nantz making around $6.5 million per year. John Ourand writes that while Nantz and his agent were holding a hardline on salary demands, “insiders say that he was never close to leaving and did not engage in serious talks with other networks.”
CBS has employed Nantz since 1985. He became the voice of the network’s Masters coverage in 1989. It is a role he has said he would like to continue into the next decade.
