In most cases, trying out for a dream job such as the host of morning drive on WFAN can be stressful. You never know what situation can be thrown at you. For Gregg Giannotti, the co-host of Boomer & Gio, the first week brought up a topic that was different from what he expected to talk about.
This week, Giannotti was on the StuPodity podcast with StuGotz and detailed his audition week with Boomer Esiason.
“I finally got the shot. I am going to do a week with Boomer. Marc Chernoff tells me I get the full week. Of course this is the weekend that Trump calls the players SOB’s. The entire NFL kneels. I’m a guy that whatever topic you want, I will talk about it. I’ll have an opinion on it. But, much like you, I’d rather do fart jokes or tell a story about something that happened.
“Let me tell you the hatred I got from that show. It was four hours of old-school listeners. I walked out of there like I just blew my entire career because I had a take on the NFL… Luckily, I had 4 more days to showcase me as an entertaining morning guy and not like Hannity. It was scary because I had an opinion on it and gave it and I thought it would be a good discussion back-and-forth.”
As Giannotti reflects back on it, he views that situation as a good thing because he felt that the worst of it was behind him and it ended up getting him a lot of notifications on social media.
“Leading up to that, I did part-time work at WFAN, but I was at CBS Sports Radio. I would get one tweet, like my mentions would come up once a month, then they throw me in there to talk about Kaepernick and I go from nobody paying attention to getting thrown into a Trump-Kaepernick showdown. It was a wake-up call for the ages.”
