Entercom will announce that it has a new name later today. The company has registered multiple Twitter handles that suggest the new name will be Audacy. Amongst the social media names registered by Entercom are @Audacy, @AudacyAudio, @AudacyNews, and @AudacySports. Lance Venta of Radio Insight reports that the company trademarked the name in November.
The name change will also affect Radio.com.
The Twitter accounts for both Entercom and Radio.com acknowledged the upcoming change.
Entercom would be far from the first major operator to rebrand a well-established corporation. In September of 2014, Clear Channel announced that it was rebranding to iHeartMedia, using the name of its popular streaming app to establish a new identity for the entire company. Infinity Broadcasting underwent a rebrand in 2005 to become CBS Radio.
Managers across the company were informed of the name change yesterday. A town hall meeting will be held today. Employees will be told of it then. Presumably, a press release confirming the name change will go out either at that time or shortly after.
