Colin Cowherd: Trade To Carolina Gives Sam Darnold a Chance

The New York Jets hold the number two overall selection in this month’s National Football League draft. With the team entering the Robert Saleh era, picking a quarterback to start this new regime appears to be the route they’ll be taking.

As a result, various trade rumors surrounded starting quarterback Sam Darnold. The Jets finally pulled the trigger on a deal as they’re sending the former top pick in the 2018 NFL draft to the Carolina Panthers.

Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd is an advocate for Darnold having a fresh start. After the trade announcement, Cowherd took to Twitter to give his reaction on Darnold heading to the Panthers.

“Now [Darnold] has a fighting chance. He’s 23, coachable, tough, gamer, relatable, and alpha—a home run for Darnold with an aggressive owner who will go after free agents and has cap space. They’re going to rebuild this offense, and I trust Matt Rhule a lot more than I do Adam Gase.”

The Panthers will be receiving a quarterback with a 13-25 record, 45 touchdowns, 39 interceptions, and a 59.8% completion percentage during his three seasons with the Jets.
