Gregg Murphy Joins Phillies Radio Crew

Veteran Philadelphia sportscaster Gregg Murphy has been added to the Phillies Radio Network, telling Phillies Nation that he joined the team as a freelancer.

Murphy will be featured on their radio broadcasts as a pre and postgame show host, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season, although he debuted Tuesday during the Phillies doubleheader against the Mets.

The longtime broadcaster fills the void left by Jim Jackson, who was let go last fall after 14 years as part of the Phillies Radio Network. Jackson said he was told by the Phillies he was a “luxury the organization can no longer afford.” When not preempted by his role as the Flyers lead play-by-play voice, Jackson served as the Phillies pre and postgame show host for every game. Murphy is reportedly scheduled for weekends only.

Like Jackson, Murphy was also let go from a sportscasting job last year because of financial ramifications by the COVID-19 pandemic. Murphy spent nearly two decades with NBC Sports Philadelphia, working as an on-field reporter for Phillies games from 2012-2020. But he was part of a large round of nationwide layoffs by NBCUniversal last summer.
