Former North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory who hosts a radio show on 1100 am WBT in Charlotte told his listeners that he was leaving his talk gig to pursue a run for U.S. Senate.
“Let me tell my family, my audience, and my friends that I’m in,” McCrory tweeted. “I’m running for the US Senate. I am the best for this job and if I wasn’t, I wouldn’t run. I have fulfilled all my promises. I know this state better than anybody else. I love this state.”
His announcement was met with excitement and skepticism from some of his listeners.
“You will not be getting my vote. Remember your deal with the Spanish company on the I-77 toll lanes, your deal to cut unemployment payment amounts, your deal to build the convention center even though the taxpayers voted against it,” tweeted one listener. “You have never looked out for the NC taxpayers.”
McCrory hosted his Charlotte radio show with Bo Thompson from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. The 64-year-old McCrory was mayor of Charlotte from 1995 to 2009.
He served as governor from 2013 through 2016 when he lost a re-election bid to Democrat Roy Cooper.
