Sports broadcasters travel all over the country, calling various sports for different networks sometimes. Nonetheless, Jason Benetti is living a broadcaster’s dream as he called two historical milestones this past week.
On Monday, Benetti had the call for the Golden State Warriors-Denver Nuggets game, where Steph Curry scored 53 points and passed Wilt Chamberlain, becoming the Warriors’ all-time leading scorer.
Two days later, Benetti called the Chicago White Sox-Cleveland Indians game where Carlos Rodón threw a no-hitter. Benetti feels as though he’s riding a hot hand and states that he plans to take up gambling during an interview with The Athletic.
“I can’t think of a week for me with two games that had the same intensity of historical significance,” Benetti said. “When I’ve done the NCAA Tournament for Westwood One, it usually provides amazing emotion and theater all in one place in one weekend. But I can’t think of anything that had the sports gravity of the last couple of days.”
Many in Chicago know Benetti as he does play-by-play for the White Sox, and the Warriors-Nuggets game was his first NBA game for ESPN. The 37-year-old is now balancing local and national broadcasting duties, safe to say that he could have these kinds of weeks in the future.
