The 2021 Major League Baseball season is a few weeks old, and MLB Network announced in a press release their plans to provide a new way for fans to consume a game on their network.
Six-time MLB All-Star CC Sabathia will join former All-Star Carlos Peña, Hall of Famer John Smoltz, and host Stephen Nelson for a unique broadcast of Sunday’s 1:00 p.m. ET game between New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians called “MLB Network Showcase: Clubhouse Edition.”
The purpose of this telecast is for fans to see first-hand organic conversations that occur among a group of former players as if they are watching a game from home.
“Whenever I watch games with my friends and former teammates, I always say that it would be cool if the cameras were rolling and people could listen to our different conversations,” said Sabathia. “I’m excited to test this vision out for fans on MLB Network, especially with the game involving two organizations I’m incredibly familiar with.”
“MLB Network Showcase: Clubhouse Edition” isn’t the first time the network breaks away from a traditional broadcast. In the past, they have produced five analytics-focused telecasts combining essays and on-screen graphics using advanced metrics.
