The New York Post published a piece last week in which the report stated Vice President Kamala Harris was giving copies of a book to children who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border. The story went viral.
However, a week has gone by, and the journalist who wrote the article, Laura Italiano, announced her resignation on Twitter, where she stated the inaccuracy of the Harris story.
“An announcement: Today I handed in my resignation to my editors at the New York Post,” Italiano tweeted. “The Kamala Harris story — an incorrect story I was ordered to write and which I failed to push back hard enough against — was my breaking point.”
“It’s been a privilege to cover the City of New York for its liveliest, wittiest tabloid — a paper filled with reporters and editors I admire deeply and hold as friends. I’m sad to leave.”
Aft the Washington Postdid some fact-checking. The Post temporarily removed the article and republished it with an editor’s note notifying that only “one known copy of the book” was given to a child.
The Hill has reached out to the New York Post for a statement concerning the resignation of Italiano. Thus far, the newspaper has yet to provide a comment.
