Vice President Kamala Harris made an appearance on “Good Morning America” where she spoke with host George Stephanopoulos. The vice president went on to say that “America is a racist country.”
These comments from Harris come after President Joe Biden’s joint speech to Congress last Wednesday, where he recognized white supremacy as a significant threat facing America today.
Stephanopoulos asked the vice president over GOP’s rebuttal to Biden’s speech, made by Sen. Tim Scott, where he stated that “America is not a racist country.” The “Good Morning America” host proposed the question to Harris, where he agreed with the senator’s statement.
“Senator Tim Scott said last night that America is not a racist country. Do you agree with that, and what do you make of his warning against fighting discrimination with more discrimination?” Stephanopoulos asked.
“Well, first of all, no, I don’t think America is a racist country,” Harris responded. “But we also do have to speak truth about the history of racism in our country and its existence today.”
Harris also went on to thank President Biden for “always having the ability and the courage, frankly, to speak the truth about [racism in America]. He spoke what we know from the intelligence community, one of the greatest threats to our national security is domestic terrorism manifested by white supremacists.”
