WBAL Discusses Rise in Violence With Fell Points Business Owners

Dramatic video obtained by WBAL NewsRadio 1090 shows people running for their lives as gunfire is being unleashed early Saturday in the streets of a popular bar district called Fells Point.

Host Yuripzy Morgan discussed the dire situation that business owners and city leaders are facing during her show on Monday.

City police have been dealing with escalating violence in Fells Point. The situation has reached a boiling point where some business owners have threatened to withhold city tax payments if the situation is not addressed.

“It’s at night when things start to get really bad,” Morgan said. “We knew this from the letter that was sent out by people who have been in Fells Point for a long time. We knew this, but how did this happen again?”

The incident occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m. amid a heavier than usual police presence.

“The report was that they were going to add a police officer from every one of the districts, adding to the eight police officers that were already in the area,” Morgan said. “That tells you that you are not letting the police officers do their job.”

A virtual town hall took place to address the concerns of local residents but the city’s mayor, Brandon Scott was a no-show.

The Yuripzy Morgan Show on WBAL NewsRadio 1090 and FM 101.5 can be heard weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
