Disgraced ex-CBS anchor Dan Rather was heavily criticized on Twitter following his critique of Jon Stewart’s comments about the source of the COVID-19 virus. Stewart made his comments during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last week.
Stewart defied the boundaries of liberalism when he said there may be some credibility to the COVID lab-leak theory.
Rather penned an article for Substack, a blog for independent writers.
“Stewart is playing into the trope of the mad scientist at a time when we need science more than ever to solve our more pressing problems — most notably climate change. The idea that science is the biggest threat to the planet is terribly irresponsible,” Rather wrote.
In 2005, Rather left CBS after he presented inauthentic documents related to George W. Bush’s Vietnam-era service in the National Guard.
Joe Concha, a media columnist for The Hill, wasted no time pouncing on Rather in a tweet.
“In a contest of “Who do you trust?” – the fake newsman wouldn’t fare well here,” he tweeted. “And we’re not talking about Stewart #fakebutaccurate.”
Tim Murtaugh, a strategist at a public affairs company said, “unexplained here, by a network anchor who lost his career by pushing fake documents, is how questioning the origin of the virus is “attacking science.”
