An unidentified Fox News host reportedly received a package containing a white powdery substance in the mail prompting an evacuation of the company’s New York City offices Friday, according to the New York Post.
Police were called and the host was reportedly isolated inside an office while everyone else left.
The network has not released a statement about the incident, but a short explanation was sent to employees via email which was obtained by Deadline.
“We immediately notified the NYPD’s Hazmat unit and the FDNY, both of which responded accordingly, and the floor was evacuated,” the email read. “The substance was determined to be non-hazardous, and we are very grateful for their swift attention to the incident.”
Authorities later determined that the substance was non-hazardous.
Media outlets have been the targets of hate mail and foreign substances for years. In 2001, following the 9/11 attacks, ABC, CBS, NBC, the New York Post and the National Enquirer, all received letters containing anthrax.
