Next Tuesday, The Blitz 1170 will make its debut in Tulsa. KFAQ is a 50,000 watt AM station owned by Griffin Communications. Currently, the station is operating a talk format.
Griffin is investing in local hosts. Original local content will be heard on The Blitz from 6 am until 6 pm each weekday.
Morning drive will belong to University of Tulsa men’s basketball radio voice Rick Couri. From 9 until 11 am, listeners will hear KOTV-TV sports reporter Dan Hawk. He’ll be followed by market veteran Big Al Jerkens, formerly of The Sports Animal. Afternoon drive will feature the team of Jeremie Poplin and Colby Daniels. Daniels previously hosted for 107.7 The Franchise. Poplin will also serve as the station’s program director.
The flip was originally supposed to happen on August 23. The reason for the delay is unknown.
“We are so excited to bring the best local sports radio to Tulsa” said Griffin’s VP/Content Todd Spessard. “From high school to college to professional — Tulsa has so many great sports stories to tell, and we can’t wait to bring them to Green Country. We’re putting together a local lineup of some of the best and well-known TULSA voices and are ready to start talking sports!”
Outside the local content windows, The Blitz will feature FOX Sports Radio programming. The station has also struck a deal with Westwood One to air Barstool’s ‘Picks Central’.
