Angelo Cataldi Will Cut Back In 2022, Retire After

The announcement about Angelo Cataldi’s future at WIP came on Wednesday morning. He told his listeners that in January, he will cut back to doing just four shows a week. He will skip Wednesdays. At the end of 2022, he will retire from the station.

Philadelphia sports fans have been able to count on Cataldi being on WIP in morning drive for the last 33 years. He said that he started thinking about retirement earlier this year when he felt burned out on the business.

Angelo Cataldi took several weeks off in May. During that time, he had initially decided he would retire at the end of this year. On Wednesday, he told listeners that he decided to do one more year “as a sense of thanks to the people who have run this radio station and have been so good to me.”

Cataldi knows it is too early to speculate about who would take his spot. He did say that he expects his co-hosts, Rhea Hughes and Al Morganti, to remain on the show with whoever the next host is.

Angelo Cataldi has hosted the morning show at WIP since 1989. He, Hughes and Morganti still remain a force in the ratings.

“Thank you WIP and above all else, thank you to the listeners for keeping me here so much longer than I deserve and so much longer than I ever expected,” Angelo Cataldi said on air. “Thank you for your loyalty.”
