Veteran journalist Katie Couric is receiving criticism following a revelation that she edited out a key quote from an interview with late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
The interview was conducted in 2016, shortly after former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick decided to take a knee during the playing of the national anthem to protest police brutality.
Ginsburg reportedly described the act as “dumb and disrespectful,” adding that it showed “contempt for a government that has made it possible for their parents and grandparents to live a decent life.”
According to the Daily Mail, in her soon-to-be-released memoir Going There Couric said she was faced with a “conundrum” while working on the story for Yahoo News. Couric said Ginsburg, who was 83 at the time, probably didn’t understand the question.
“Think of how much damage to our country could’ve been avoided if such statements from an arch-leftist like RBG weren’t suppressed,” tweeted Arkansas U.S. Senate candidate Jake Bequette.
Couric said she wanted to “protect” Ginsberg, adding that the issue of racial justice was a “blind spot for her.”
“The corporate press is the enemy of the people,” tweeted the Libertarian Party of Connecticut.
