During a segment on Fox News Primetime, Jesse Watters welcomed his colleague Rachel Campos-Duffy, host of “Fox & Friends Weekend,” and her husband, former congressman Sean Duffy. The trio discussed Christopher Columbus as this past Monday was the holiday celebrating the explorer.
As the conversation continued, the three began touching on people who have been affected by explorers, one being the Native Americans as various tribes were wiped out, cultures taken from them, and land stolen.
Furthermore, Campos-Duffy spoke about the issues facing Native Americans in this country and where the hurdles originated.
“The real lie is with conditions for Native Americans right now,” Campos-Duffy said. “The conditions from Native Americans have everything to do with government dependency, cycles of poverty and alcoholism, and family breakdowns, and these are things that the Democrats don’t want to talk about.”
Campos-Duffy also insisted Democrats tell Native Americans that “all the things you’re experiencing has to do with white people and racism in the past. No, it has to do with government policies as well.”
Watters would chime in saying that Democrats will send Native Americans “slush funds” to keep voting blue.
“Yeah, they’re just going to try to send more slush funds to the reservations and make them out to be victims, and then have them keep voting for Democrats,” Watters said.

This is absolute garbage and doesn’t even begin to address the reality and history of what was done to natives and where they were forced to live and under what conditions – land that is basically uninhabitable, and far from anything. This woman should read about treaties that promised many things, treaties that were systematically broken over and over again, leaving natives with nearly nothing. This woman should read about Wounded Knee, where innocent elders, women and children/infants were slaughtered on the reservation and thrown into a mass grave. This woman should read about religious (and not just Catholic) boarding schools where the philosophy was “kill the Indian, save the man”, when children were forcefully taken from their families and not allowed to speak their language or honor their culture, children who were shamed, beaten and killed just for being who they were. What does she think all those mass graves next to boarding schools are? She should read about the impact this had and resulting historical trauma and alcoholism. She should read about white people who purposely placed liquor stores across the state lines right next to reservations and the wealth they accumulated selling alcohol to natives. She should read about the forced sterilization of native women that took place up into the 1970’s and ceremonies that could not be practiced until the civil rights act. Before that act, “No Indians Allowed” signs were placed in stores, etc. everywhere in Rapid City where I lived. All of these issues are documented and not someone’s uneducated opinion. Furthermore, I am enrolled with a tribe and do not receive anything. I have land on the reservation and get $7.00/year for land that is being leased, through the government, to local ranchers.
