If you have a large audience and make content they respond to, Barstool Sports will find you. That was the case on Monday when the company announced it had signed social media star and Premier League soccer fan Expressions Oozing to its roster.
Expressions is a devoted fan of Tottenham Hotspur. He is also close friends with Barstool’s Troopz, another British content creator that focuses on the Premier League.
“Expressions is Troopz 2.0, but if Troopz was a Tottenham supporter,” wrote Jack Mac in a blog post introducing Expressions to the Barstool audience. “He has the same comedy, the same ridiculous reactions, and the same devout following.”
Troopz may have paved the way for his friend to land at Barstool, but it is no doubt that “dedicated following” that caught Dave Portnoy and company’s collective eyes. Expressions boasts more than 58,000 followers on Twitter and more than 211,000 followers on Instagram.
This signing probably means more to soccer fans and a younger audience than it does to most sports media professionals. To the folks at Barstool, it is just another sign that the brand is growing in ways and places that most would never have predicted. Mac wrote that the pairing of Troopz and Expressions could be the start of something very big.
“I have no idea how big these two will be able to get. I think the upside is limitless. A whole Barstool UK could emerge.”
