Bob Ley wants to help prepare students at his alma mater to be future stars and leaders in the sports media world. He has made a monetary donation to help launch the Center for Sports Media at Seton Hall University.
The school has seen in real time just how interested its students are in working in and around sports. There was no sports media minor at Seton Hall until 2017. Within four years it had become the most popular minor option at the university.
The Center for Sports Media will give students the chance to work in the fields of sports journalism, communications and business. The school also says it will give students the chance “to collaborate with the sports community and produce groundbreaking content published through university channels and partnerships with major media outlets.”
“Seton Hall is uniquely positioned to assume a leadership role, as we see this industry continually reshaped in front of our eyes,” said Bob Ley. “Educating and training the next generation of leaders is vital, so these creators of compelling content work at the highest journalistic standards. Seton Hall is committed to the success of the Center, and I am deeply honored to make its founding gift.”
The former SportsCenter and Outside the Lines anchor has remained very active with Seton Hall. He regularly presents workshops and masterclasses, and moderates a sports-media speaker series. Ley also mentors students at the campus radio station, WSOU, which is where he got his start in broadcasting.
