Fox 2 Detroit’s Erika Erickson took to social media to announce her departure from the television station.
Erickson has been public about her battle with cervicogenic headaches, a chronic condition that causes severe pain and a decreased range of motion in the neck, causing her to miss a bulk of 2021.
The TV reporter also stated in her announcement that she’d be moving into a new position as the director of communications for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
“I’m excited to work for the people of Wayne County, for the passionate Sheriff Raphael Washington and spirited Chief Michael Turner,” Erickson said.
“I also cannot wait to get in there, and ya know, toss in some EE flavor. There are some incredible men and women at the WCSO and some beautiful stories to be shared!”
During her time with Fox 2 Detroit, she reported on an extended range of breaking news and feature stories. Last year, Erickson profiled a 94-year-old woman who traveled 300 miles to vote in Detroit; she also reported on a group giving food to military veterans in need.
Erickson concluded her stated by stating that she’s “working out of a bouncing truck, hunching over to log video, standing or interviewing in unpredictable weather, running around all over to cover ever-changing or breaking news … and the overall madness that is news: I love it all, but my body was screaming at me for so long, and I didn’t listen.”
