Over the weekend, CNN decided to part ways with Chris Cuomo after documents released by New York Attorney General’s office showed that he had a more significant role in helping his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, during a sexual harassment scandal.
Cumo provided a statement on Twitter following the network’s decision to part ways with him, saying that this isn’t his desired outcome to the situation.
“This is not how I want my time at CNN to end, but I have already told why and how I helped my brother,” Cuomo said.
“So now let me say as disappointing as this is, I could not be more proud of the team at Cuomo Prime Time and the work we did as CNN’s #1 show in the most competitive time slot. I owe them all and will miss that group of special people who did really important work.”
CNN’s decision comes as new details revealed that their former anchor had communicated with former aides to his brother. As a result, it led to the temporary suspension as the network investigated the matter, leading to Cuomo’s termination.
“We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and have terminated him, effective immediately. While in the process of that review, additional information has come to light. Despite the termination, we will investigate as appropriate,” CNN said in a statement.
