Longtime Buffalo TV and radio reporter George Richert retired Friday following a 30-year career in journalism.
“My heart is breaking…but I am so happy for @GeorgeRichert4, who retires today and 30 years in radio and TV journalism,” tweeted WIVB anchor Jacquie Walker. “It was my privilege to tell his final ‘story’ on @news4buffalo.”
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown declared Jan. 21, 2022, “George Richert Day” for the difference Richert’s reporting made in the community spanning three decades.
Richert resigned as the spokesperson for the Buffalo Diocese to return to WIVB in 2018.
According to the Buffalo News, Richert spent 17 years at Channel 4 and five years before that as a reporter at Newsradio 930 WBEN.
“Be honest, be fair, let people tell their stories,” tweeted Chris Broadbent, WIVB Chief Photographer. “Prioritize family over work life; congratulations on your retirement @GeorgeRichert4.”
