When a story leads headlines all over the country, it can be hard to understand how the story is playing in the local community it affects the most. That became clear on Thursday’s edition of Bull and Fox in Cleveland when the duo had NFL Network’s Albert Breer on and the issue of Tom Brady’s retirement came up.
Adam the Bull said he could not believe people in New England are actually upset that Tom Brady didn’t mention the Patriots in his retirement statement. Breer, a Boston native, said that not only does the sentiment exist, but it is fueling hosts and callers on The Sports Hub and WEEI.
“As you guys might imagine being in the business, it’s been sports radio gold for 48 hours,” he told the 92.3 The Fan afternoon show. “Thank you to Tom Brady for programming maybe a full week of sports radio in Boston.”
Breer went on to say that he thinks Tom Brady still holds a serious grudge towards the Patriots organization. It may not be a permanent feeling, but in February 2021, Brady may not want to give the team credit for anything.
“My guess is Tom looks at it and says ‘You gave up on me. I could have finished my career there and you walked away from me. I don’t owe you anything,’” Albert Breer said.
He noted that Brady is now surrounded by multiple PR teams. Nothing in the statement he put on Instagram was completely off the cuff. Multiple people likely asked him if he was positive he didn’t want to mention the Patriots before the post went public.
Dustin Fox asked another interesting question about Brady as it relates to the sports media. Adam the Bull pointed out that there could be as much as $25 million on the table for Brady to work in TV. Fox wanted to know if that was enough to have the GOAT truly put football behind him.
“He’s never done TV before,” Fox said. “All he knows how to do is play quarterback. Is there a chance next year he comes back?”
Albert Breer said that it is well-known that Tom Brady is afraid of what retirement looks like for him. He is sure that the Brady family will be very happy in June and July, but if September comes and a contender suddenly has an injury at quarterback, Breer said it is hard to picture Brady not answering a phone call.
