Craig Carton: I Love Watching Media Fall For Stories From Ballsack Sports

Ballsack Sports has quickly emerged as a force on social media. The website writes fake, tongue-in-cheek stories that are just believable enough to fool some broadcasters, who then report the stories as real news. Craig Carton is a big fan of this.

“Every time they get a win, I like to celebrate it,” the WFAN afternoon host said as he welcomed Ballsack Sports founder Big Matt to Carton and Roberts on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, Jerry Recco fell for a Ballsack Sports story during a sports update on Boomer & Gio. Carton played the audio for Big Matt and asked if he is amazed legitimate sports news organizations are still falling for his fake stories.

“Yeah, it’s getting pretty ridiculous at this point,” Big Matt answered. “I thought it would be over after a week, but we’re still going two months in and people are still not picking up on this. It’s Ballsack Sports! I made it Ballsack Sports because I couldn’t make it anymore obvious.”

It should be noted that the logo for the Twitter feed is a giant, inter-locking BS.

Big Matt told Carton and Roberts that his biggest victory has been a story he made up about Scottie Pippen. In the story, Matt wrote that Pippen claimed Michael Jordan ruined basketball. The quote was picked up by both FOX and Sports Illustrated. Eventually, Pippen was asked to comment on it.

Evan Roberts said that the Twitter handle fooled him at first too. The name is ridiculous, which should be a tipoff, but with 58,000 followers, it was easy for Carton to convince himself that Ballsack Sports was a credible outlet.

Carton promised to have Big Matt on the show again soon. He joked that nothing makes him happier than seeing the site’s name scroll along the bottom of a TV screen.

“Keep it up,” he told Big Matt. “I can’t wait to see your next W. We’ll celebrate it on the air.”
