The alarming rise in gas prices across the U.S. have sparked debate and outrage. But will Americans accept the higher totals at the pump in exchange for holding Russia accountable for invading Ukraine.
CNN reporter Vanessa Yurkevich believes so. Appearing on “At this Hour” from a New Jersey gas station Tuesday morning, Yurkevich asserted that Americans want to see Vladimir Putin held accountable for his actions.
“People that we have spoken to over the last couple of weeks, they’re OK paying higher prices if it means holding Russia accountable for what they are doing in Ukraine.”
Yurkevich acknowledged the 55-cent jump from last week but compared the prices to drastic hikes that people paid in the summer of 2008. “If we’re looking at it, adjusted for inflation, prices were actually higher in 2008 than they are today.”
According to Triple-A, the average price for regular is currently $4.17 a gallon. That price was effective before President Joe Biden banned all imports of Russian oil.
