Joe Davis Reportedly Favorite To Call World Series For FOX

So much talk is focused on NFL broadcasters. It is easy to forget that FOX now has to overhaul its MLB play-by-play booth too. Richard Deitsch reports that the network won’t look far. Multiple sources have told him Joe Davis likely ascends to the position.

According to his latest column for The Athletic, sources have told Deitsch not to take rumors about Dan Shulman leaving ESPN for FOX seriously. Shulman is not expected to exit his ESPN contract early.

Joe Davis has been with FOX since 2014. He has called MLB games as well as college football and college basketball for the network. He has also become the television voice of the Dodgers in that time.

Joe Buck’s travel schedule in the fall sometimes makes it hard for him to be at every MLB Playoff game that FOX is carrying. Davis has been there when necessary to fill in. He has also called early round playoff games on FS1.

No deal is done yet. There are plenty of factors still at play. One that shouldn’t be dismissed is FOX’s history of trying to make a splash with hires in the broadcast booth. Could Al Michaels be a possibility for FOX as it looks to find the next voice of the World Series?

Joe Davis has been hailed as the best young broadcaster in baseball by many in the industry. On top of that, he is already part of the FOX Sports family. Michaels’s star power could be the only thing that stands in the way of his promotion to the World Series.
