MSNBC is once again seeing a shift in its morning lineup. Anchor Craig Melvin will leave his 11 a.m. weekday morning slot at the end of March. This shift is due to Melvin wanting to focus on his duties at NBC News and NBC’s “Today” program.
The anchor is a regular presence alongside Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, co-hosting the 9 a.m. slot for the morning program. Melvin’s agreement with NBCUniversal is believed to expire at the end of 2022, per Variety.
However, this departure from MSNBC’s 11 a.m. slot has nothing to do with his contract with the cable news channel. Instead, the move is designed to give Melvin more time to concentrate on “Today” and to help him reduce the four hours of live TV he does each weekday.
A rotating lineup of MSNBC anchors will take over after Melvin exits his MSNBC program, beginning April 1st.
Last month, “Morning Joe” announced that it will be adding a fourth hour to its show beginning April 4th as MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle left her 10 a.m slot to take over the hosting duties of “The 11th Hour.”
