Jimmy Steele Leaves Program Director Role at News/Talk WXQW

The program director for News/Talk WXQW in Mobile, AL, Jimmy Steele, will be leaving the radio station and heading to Indianapolis to become the Program Director for contemporary hit radio station WZPL-FM, effective Monday, April 18.

Steele has been at WXQW since 2017 while also serving as the Director of CHR WABD-FM. Despite being at a news talk station, Steele has a lot of history working at contemporary hit radio stations.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the Cumulus Indianapolis family and to work alongside the highly committed and talented team at 99.5 ZPL,” Steele said in a statement. “Thank you to Boomer, Chuck Fredrick, Doug Hamand, Louie Diaz and John Dimick for the amazing opportunity.”

Before joining the Cumulus media stations, Steele spent time at contemporary hit radio stations Nashville, Buffalo, and Madison. He also served as the Operations Manager posts for iHeartMedia in Ocean City, Columbus, and San Diego.

“There was huge interest in this position, and I spoke with a number of qualified programmers, but Jimmy stood out from the start. His programming portfolio of experience is loaded with wins and a successful history of working with top-tier talent across the country,” Cumulus Indianapolis Operations Manager Christopher “Boomer” Layfield said.

“His reverence for ZPL’s iconic standing in the market, combined with his passion for making great radio and his distinct vision of how to elevate and amplify the ZPL brand on-air, online, in the community, and across social media, make him the ideal choice to become our next Program Director.”
