A week after announcing that he was leaving iHeartRadio and moving to 93.7 The Fan, Pittsburgh radio personality Adam Crowley made his debut on his new station. Unfortunately, it was a day later than originally scheduled.
In what has to be a nightmare scenario for what was supposed to be his first day at his new job, Crowley came down with a stomach flu and was unable to make his first on-air appearance. But he finally got behind the mic Wednesday during The PM Team with Poni & Mueller.
Not being able to work his scheduled first day because of a stomach bug might appear to be a joke, especially when Andrew Fillipponi mentioned “explosive diarrhea” in a a tweet. We can only imagine what that phone call with brand manager Kraig Riley was like when Crowley had to explain why he couldn’t report for his first day at 93.7 The Fan.
Naturally, Crowley had to take some on-air ribbing about his stomach flu ordeal from Filiponi and Mueller.
“You’re thinking this is going to be my first show on a new station, my opportunity to announce my presence with authority, and… you couldn’t stop crapping,” said Filiponi. “Is that kind of the story of your life, in a way?”
Crowley used that as an opening to take a shot at his former station.
“That’s why I’m 31 and now finally working on the big sports station in town,” he said. That one went over well with his new colleagues.
Crowley recounted the misery of his Tuesday morning, saying he called in after a bout of projective vomiting. Fillipponi followed by explaining that Crowley is Riley’s first big move as brand manager after months of observing the current station lineup and determining what was needed.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette‘s Joshua Axelrod, Crowley will be a utility man at 93.7 The Fan, working as producer, fill-in host, and weekend contributor. His first shift was scheduled to be Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET, but we now know how that went. When Crowley will next appear on the air hasn’t been announced, but he’ll certainly have a good story to share for that first shift.
